Zimmermann's new collection Wavelength, which debuted during New York Fashion Week, proves one thing: the Australian surf is here to inspire our upcoming hair trends. The 2020 collection introduced a sea of vibrant summer tones, from burnt oranges and citruses inspired by beachside sunrises, to seafoam green and aqua, alongside the labels iconic embroidered and slouchy pieces.
But it was the model's hair choice that really set the tone for the Zimmermann girl, emanating from the surfer culture of the Australian summer.
"In some ways, the collection isn’t really about 'surf' per se – the styling and silhouettes are very dressed, sophisticated and feminine," Zimmermann's Creative Director Nicky Zimmermann said. "We’ve embraced it more through fabrication with our use of popping colour, textures and artwork of the surf culture at that time. We wanted a collection that was fun, sexy and a little cheeky.
"Something that embraced a mood of never-ending summers. We designed surf posters for prints that were inspired by the great 60s and 70s surf magazine covers and film posters – the amazing use of photos, vibrant colour and bold typography. Working on those posters and fabrics was so much fun in itself.”
Renya Xydis and Wella Professionals created the perfect beachy waves to compliment the collection. “Renya and the Wella Professionals team helped bring our vision to life, finishing the looks with vibrant, surfy styles that took us back to the 70s, with a modern twist,” adds Zimmermann.
