Your boy Zac Efron is taking a step back from those raunchy "frat boy" characters we've become so accustomed to, as he takes on a new role as one of America's most notorious serial killers.
The star has signed on to play Ted Bundy in a new film by award-winning script writer Michael Werwie.
The film is titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and will be told from the perspective of Bundy's longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. It will examine the dysfunctional relationship between the pair, before she turned him in.
Bundy was known for his charm and good looks, which he used to lure at least 30 women to their deaths in the 1970s. While awaiting trial on murder charges in 1975, he escaped from prison twice. During this time, Bundy committed additional assaults, which included three murders. He ultimately received three death sentences, and was executed 1989.
“I have been trying to work with Zac Efron for a long time,” said producer Nicolas Chartier. “From his dramatic turn in Paperboy to his hilarious performance in Neighbours, he continues to impress audiences and critics alike with his extraordinary versatility and range. We couldn’t be more excited to see him in this amazing role.”
True crime fans will surely be hooked into this one. Stay tuned for more details.
