Last year, the label, known for its soft, feminine aesthetic, transformed a space inside Sydney's Carriageworks into a floral wonderland. And with Georgie and Lizzie Renkert—the women behind the brand—describing We Are Kindred's resort 2020 collection as "A little bit bohemian and a little bit party," we can't wait to see this year's set.
To gain a feel for the collection ahead of its debut, Georgie and Lizzie chatted to InStyle about the inspiration behind their new range, and even gave us a sneak peek at a few of the yet-to-be-seen pieces, modelled by Alannah Walton and Emma Macgowan, who star in the label's resort 2020 campaign.
Can you explain the inspiration behind your new collection?
Our resort ’20 collection, Boheme Heart is inspired by carefree summer days and celebrates the femininity and sensuality of women. It has a distinctly bohemian feel and leaves you with a taste of wanderlust and joy.
What do you think will surprise us the most about the range?
We think the colour palette will surprise everyone the most. Traditionally, our colour palettes have been quite stereotypically feminine—softer pastel tones and a lot of pink. For resort ’20, the feeling is much more bohemian and the colour palette is crisp and fresh, with a lot of natural fibres such as linens and cottons.
Why did you choose to work with Alannah Walton and Emma Macgowan on your new campaign?
Alannah and Emma are best friends and kindreds themselves, which is why we wanted to use them in our campaign. They exude a relaxed happiness and are really lovely, beautiful girls— the epitome of the kindred woman.
What are you most excited about for fashion week this year?
Mostly, I think we’re just excited to be able to show this collection to everyone. We started working on this collection quite a while ago, so to be able to finally see that vision come to life on the runway is incredibly exciting for us. We’re so proud of this collection, and we hope everyone loves it as much as we do.
To set the tone ahead of the show, can you tell us what music will be playing as models walk the runway?
Georgie’s husband, musician Jake Meadows has composed an original sound track for the show. It’s an eclectic and beautiful mix of vocal, harp and beats. The songs are a true representation of the collection: a little bit bohemian and a little bit party!
