When Paris-based design collective Vetements hit the fashion scene in 2014, the style set sat up and noticed. Their subversive wares, including DHL T-shirts and cigarette lighter stilettos, instantly reached cult status, while their hoodies—an item that had previously only been acceptable for the gym—were suddenly being sported front-row at the most exclusive shows.
Headed up by Demna Gvasalia, who was also appointed creative director of Balenciaga in 2015, there’s no doubt that the label knows how to get people talking. And the latest piece to break the Internet? Butt-baring jeans. Yep, that’s right, the jeans, designed in collaboration with Levi’s, have a zipper right down the back seam (and the front!), which offers wearers the chance to really expose some skin. Check out the below Instagram post to see how it's done.
Now, to be honest, similar styles were shown on the Vetements runway last year (top), and didn’t garner quite as big a reaction—probably because the zippers were firmly done up and simply appeared decorative. We think it’s safe to assume that most people who invest in a pair are not going to wear them undone, but you’ve got to appreciate Vetements' cheeky spin, it's this attitude that sets them apart, after all.
