Selena Gomez's new song about her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, 'Lose You to Love Me', resulted in the singer's first-ever Billboard number one. And it looks like her other ex, The Weeknd, is about to follow suit.
Overnight, the musician hinted that he's about to release new music, posting a blurry image with the caption, ‘The fall starts tomorrow night.’ And, just like his last album, it looks like this one features a song about his girlfriend of 10-months, Selena Gomez.
According to US performance rights organisation ASCAP, The Weeknd has registered an upcoming song titled ‘Like Selena’.
If true, this won't be the first time The Weeknd has dedicated a song to Selena. 'My Dear Melancholy', which he was seen crying while singing at Coachella 2018, was also about their split. "Guess I was just another pit stop/'Til you made up your mind/You just wasted my time," he sings, seemingly referencing how quickly she got back with Justin following their break up.
Plus, referencing Selena's kidney transplant, he says, "I said I didn't feel nothing, baby, but I lied/I almost cut a piece of myself for your life."
The Weeknd and Gomez were first romantically linked in January 2017, before ending their relationship in October that year. The Weeknd then went on to rekindle things with Bella Hadid for another year, before they split in August.
The news that The Weeknd is releasing a song about Selena probably won't be music to either Selena or Bella's ears. The two women recently publicly made up after unfollowing each other on social media in 2017. Though it pays to note, if Selena has a song, Bella, who he dated for much longer, likely does too.
That's one (very effective) way to tease an album.
