If you’re not up to date with The Weeknd’s tendency to release songs about his famous ex’s (namely Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid), we’re here to give you a quick run-through. His 2018 album, My Dear Melancholy was riddled with references to the two stars – “Call Out My Name” gave a raw insight into his and Gomez’s tumultuous relationship, and “Wasted Time” was a swipe at model, Hadid.

Currently, the singer/songwriter is dating neither of his ex-flames, but it comes as no surprise that his new music features references to Hadid and Gomez again. Or so we thought.
Last week, The Weeknd pulled a Blake Lively, deleting all previous Instagram posts and announcing the news of his new song “Heartless” (which is definitely about Hadid by the way). Around the same time, it was revealed that Abel Tesfaye (his real name) had registered a new song with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), titled “Like Selena”. Naturally, the internet lost their minds at the thought of a Taylor Swift-style tell-all track about the couple’s relationship that ended in October 2017.
Much to our dismay, Entertainment Tonight has reported that the song has been scrapped, or at least won’t be released in the near future. The ASCAP page that had previously listed “Like Selena” as a track both written and performed by The Weeknd, has since been taken down. It’s no secret that his relationship with Gomez is no easy feat for Abel. The artist was nearly brought to tears while performing “Call Out My Name” at Coachella last year.
It’s difficult to speculate exactly what’s happened to the song. Was the listing just some kind of error or was “Like Selena” scrapped because The Weeknd’s feelings for Gomez are still too raw?
