The Sinner was hands down one of our favourite binge-watches of 2017 - and we’ve got our detective hats ready, because Netflix has announced the highly anticipated second season will debut November 9.
Today, the streaming service released a new trailer which reveals some vital plot details:
Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) is back to solve a new case, which sees him return to his hometown in rural New York. He’s contacted by a female detective named Heather Novak who wants him to take a look at an unsettling murder that’s shaken up the sleepy town - a 13-year-old boy has killed his parents in cold blood.
We see the murder scene, both parents lying on the floor, and the boy looking distressed and teary in the aftermath. Is this a clue that the crime wasn’t premeditated? Or is the boy as evil as the act he’s committed?
There are plenty more hints that this suburban town is full of ~secrets~ and shady types – a woman holds a bloody knife, neon motel signs flash in the dark, a plastic shower curtain throws back to Hitchcock’s Psycho, and in another scene, a boy stands in front of a kitchen as it goes up in flames.
More plot notes are revealed on Netflix's Youtube channel, including a key character called Vera (played by Carrie Coon) who “proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.”
The show is executive produced by Jessica Biel, who starred in the first season as the tortured Cora Tannetti. Her character makes a brief appearance in the trailer when detective Novak makes reference to her case. No word yet on whether Tannetti will return in the new season, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, here's the original teaser trailer:
