Everything You Need To Know About 'A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby'

Prepare to binge! - by Chelsea Tromans
  • 21 Nov 2019

You have to give it to Netflix, the streaming giant has desperately tried to switch up our traditional Christmas countdown by introducing a whole host of shiny new festive flicks from Let It Snow to The Knight Before Christmas.

And although we would never give up our go-to guilty pleasures (read: The Holiday and Elf), we're certainly eager to kickstart the run-up to the big day with the ultimate binge-worthy list.

At the very top of our agenda this season? The highly-anticipated A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. So without further ado, here's everything we know about the regal film so far.

Watch The Trailer For A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby Below:

What is A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby about?

Warning: the following contains spoilers.

Soon to reign the Netflix charts, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby is actually the third installment of a film franchise loosely based on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's real-life romance.

In debut flick A Christmas Prince, which was released in 2017, US journalist Amber (Rose McIver) goes undercover as Princess Emily's nanny in order to get the royal scoop in the fictional country of Aldovia. While she's on the hunt for a story, Crown Prince Richard (Ben Lamb) is on the lookout for a Queen and in a not-so-surprising turn of events, Amber eventually falls in love with the royal.

Seeking inspiration from Meghan Markle's own royal path, the second film A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding sees the couple prepare to tie the knot in a history-making ceremony. But Amber struggles to comprehend the royal responsibilities thrust upon her, as she is forced to give up her blog (sound familiar?) and sense of normality.

In the trailer, the bride-to-be is seen battling the realities of life behind castle walls with the overwhelming pressure to "give up" her identity in the name of love.

So once you're all caught up (we sure hope you've cleared your weekend plans), you can begin the festive countdown with the third installment: A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby.

A trailer for the upcoming small screen flick has yet to be released but Netflix teased the following synopsis, "It’s Christmastime in Aldovia - and a royal baby is on the way! Amber and Richard host royals from a faraway kingdom to renew an ancient truce, but when the priceless 600-year-old-treaty disappears, peace is put in jeopardy and an ancient curse threatens their family."

When will A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby be released?

The movie will grace our television screens on December 5, allowing us ample time to squeeze in a good couple of watches ahead of Christmas Day. There's no word on the trailer yet, but details on the film can be found over Netflix.

According to the streaming company, 53 people watched A Christmas Prince every day for 18 days in a row back in 2017 so the next film drop is sure to steal our hearts (whether you like to admit it or not).

Who is in the A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby cast?

Fans of the films will be pleased to learn that a handful of familiar faces will be returning for the next movie with Rose McIver and Ben Lamb reprising their roles as Queen Amber and King Richard. Meanwhile, King Tai and Queen Ming of Penglia will be played by Kevin Shen and Momo Yeung.

John Schultz, who directed A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, will also make a comeback for the third installment.

So grab a hot cup of cocoa (a box of tissues might come in handy too) and get cracking on the first two films in anticipation of the next hit.
