Chances are you've binge-watched the entire first seasons of 13 Reasons Why, and if you haven't, you've seen it ALL over the internet.
For those who haven't, this post contains spoilers!
Personally, the show left me completely shook, and that's because of Hannah's death.
Now, author of the novel Jay Asher has revealed to EW that his draft version held a very different fate for Hannah.
Hannah is saved by her parents, taken to the hospital and has her stomach pumped from an overdose. All in all, it's traumatic, but she SURVIVES!
"I liked the idea of 'We've learned something from this. And yet, here's a second chance,'" Jay revealed.
"Knowing as well that it was going to be difficult when Hannah went back to school to have to deal with those kids. It's not like everything's smooth now. In fact, it might even be tenser for her. But now there's Clay, who's going to be upfront that he's there for her."
Although, Jay went on to explain that the message wouldn't be as powerful if Hannah survived...
"Out of seriousness for the issue, we realised we can't go there. No matter that there were missed opportunities for her. Those opportunities aren't there if you do this. Once I realised that the message of the story would be stronger and that it would definitely be more of a cautionary tale. I felt that was definitely the way to go. That's why Skye's character made a reappearance, which was cool to see her have a bigger role throughout the TV series."
If you haven't yet watched the show, be prepared for an emotional ride.
