Self-care involves prioritising your own wellness and reducing stress, and sometimes all it takes is five minutes of your day.
Here, our InStyle team share their five tips for nurturing themselves and revitalising their mental and emotional energy.
Tip #1: Get some fresh air
The power of Mother Nature shouldn’t be underestimated. Getting outdoors has been found to boost energy and leave you feeling refreshed and happier. “To prolong that slower summer pace, I take a walk by the harbour early in the day before it gets too hot. The fresh air sets me up for the day ahead,” says InStyle’s Editor, Alex Noonan.
Tip #2: Spritz a refreshing face mist
When you’re extra busy at work, you may not have time to take a proper break, but you can always spare 10 seconds. And sometimes, that’s all you need. “I keep a mist on my desk at work and spritz my face when I’m in need of refresh. I use one with soothing essential oils so it’s both calming for my mind and hydrating for my skin,” says InStyle’s Beauty Editor, Bettina Tyrrell. Try endota organics Hydrate Me Mist – its rose scent will leave you feeling calm and uplifted, and the mist’s hydrating properties will perk up your skin.
Tip #3: Treat yourself daily
It’s the little things that count. Rather than waiting for a special occasion, look after yourself in small ways every day. “A bit of a guilty pleasure, I love keeping a small amount of chocolate at home. Perfect at the end of the day when I get a moment to relax,” says InStyle’s Market Editor, Lulu Custance.
Tip #4: Find your happy place
Even with everyday self-care, sometimes we need to go the extra mile. Find that one activity or indulgence that helps you reset and recharge. “Once monthly I get a massage; a lymphatic massage if I’m feeling sluggish or a remedial/reiki massage if I’m feeling stressed. Make sure a foot massage is included, that’s the key to relaxation,” says Amber Mackay, InStyle’s Executive Editor and Creative Director.
Tip #5: Don’t rush your skincare routine
Slow down! You can’t do much about the pace of your work day, but you can – and should – take the time to enjoy and fully experience your skincare routine. “My favourite way to end the day is to take the time to add in a few extra steps to my night-time skincare routine in the hope of waking up feeling fresh and rejuvenated,” says Lucy Wood, InStyle’s Junior Fashion Editor.
