Tobias Menzies will portray Prince Phillip in season three of Netflix's hit series The Crown.
The Outlander star has signed on for the next two seasons, and begins shooting this June in the UK, confirms Deadline. Menzies will take over the role from Matt Smith–it's no secret that Smith, Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby will have to be recast, as their ages will no longer match their real-life counterparts.
The Crown’s history consultant Robert Lacey told Town&Country, "We're now writing season three, and without giving anything away—it's on the record, it's history—we'll see the breakup of this extraordinary marriage between Margaret and Snowdon. This season, you see how it starts, and what a strange character, a brilliant character Snowden was."
Olivia Coleman will take over from Claire Foy to play Queen Elizabeth II for seasons 3 and 4, Netflix has confirmed. Helena Bonham Carter is pretty much confirmed to replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, which the actress all but confirmed when she posted a picture of the two together on Instagram with the caption, "Honoured @thecrownnetflix".
