Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy were arguably the reality TV couple who bore the brunt of this rumour the hardest, with fans often nit-picking their interviews and photos to claim they were keeping up the facade of a relationship.
While Brittany didn't walk away from her season in a relationship with Nick 'Honey Badger' Cummins, she also weighed in on the rumour.
"Even when you enter it at the beginning, there's nothing that says if you win, you have to stay together even for a week, not even a day," she said. "Sometimes I think that they're like, OK, this isn't working, let's just ride it for a little bit longer until emotionally we're ready to deal with publicly saying it's over."
Interestingly, it was Nick Cummins that reignited fan theories that such a contract exists. Speaking with ABC Radio National following his decision to walk away alone, he alluded to contractual obligations being the catalyst.
"What's more important, me just saying 'yes' and going through the motions and dragging some girl through all this media about how we're in love and then three months down the track after the contract's over, we're allowed to break up," he said. "I'm not going to drag them through that rubbish...and break her heart. Bugger that."
We're still not entirely convinced.
