Earlier this year, Channel Ten confirmed its upcoming season of The Bachelor Australia starring Survivor star Locklan 'Locky' Gilbert' had suspended filming amid the COVID-19 pandemic. But it's time to grab those roses, as the newest season could be hitting our screens as early as next month, according to Stephen Tate, the Network's Head of Entertainment.
Speaking to The Australian, Tate revealed Gilbert's season was set to air in August following Bachelor In Paradise's finale.
But the dating franchise will not play out like we're used to, with single and group dates happening via Zoom. Later in the season, as isolation rules began relaxing, Locky will meet up with his dates in person (so it won't all be awkward video chat in the search of love).
"We were three-quarters of the way through series when we went into lockdown, and basically all the cast returned home", Tate said. “So we would find ways for the show to continue in the same way that dating continues in the wider world…We call it love in lockdown. They continued to virtually date, both as single dates and as group dates.”
In April, rumours surfaced that the Bachie star had been seen getting close to Married At First Sight alum Aleks Markovic, per the Daily Mail.
According to DM, Locky "accidentally appeared in the background of Aleks' Instagram Live" while the reality star was in an interview with boxer Kyron Dryden. The former Australian Survivor star also recently started following Aleks on Instagram.
Aleks addressed the rumours, stating they were just friends.
"I was with Locky on Saturday night. He's a friend of a friend, super nice guy," she told Daily Mail Australia.
Roses at the ready!
