What is SNS?
SNS stands for Signature Nail Systems. Unlike their shellac counterparts, SNS is a powder-based nail coating. It's applied nail via a dipping method that uses a brush-on gel base on the nail, which is then dipped in a powder.
The powder, which also lends strength to the nails, consists of organically-processed chemicals Benzoyl Peroxide, Titatum Dioxide, Acrylic Ester Polymer. The steps are repeated to build thickness and colour intensity, then buffed and sealed with a glossy top coat.
Do SNS nails look natural?
Put simply: SNS nails look like your nails but better. They are also stronger yet more flexible than traditional acrylics, and the powder provides more durability than many gels.
Why are SNS nails so popular?
Most people believe that SNS is a healthier version of shellac because it doesn't require an LED lamp. However, Sally Hansen Nail Expert and Brand Ambassador, Alison Bowhill-Hayes disagrees.
SNS is “touted as a healthy or natural alternative to Shellac or gel manicures, when in actual fact the concept has been around for many years and is just an adjusted application of acrylic manicures,” Bowhill-Hayes told Beauty Crew. “Essentially, SNS is a super glue that’s applied to nails and then dipped into a polymer (acrylic powder).”
Does SNS damage your nails?
Your natural nails are compromised during the removal process - just like Shellac or gel applications, SNS is soaked in acetone for 10 to 15 minutes, which can make them dehydrated and brittle.
How long does SNS last?
A typical SNS manicure lasts between three to four weeks depending on your nails natural growth rathe and day-to-day activities.
