“I cannot live without the eyeliner,” the he reveals of the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon. Admitting to using it for Selena’s pink eyeshadow at the Met Gala that basically broke the internet. For those of us who can only choose one, he recommends ‘brownie’ as the shade to get. “It's a warm brown, that brings out everyone’s eye colour.”
When we quizzed him on his tactics to taking the best photo of his work, he reveals, “I don't like to use filters, but I always take the picture near a window and I'm always using a white card [for reflection] underneath the face.” Much like a photographer would do on a photo shoot (like in this behind the scenes pic), hold the white just out of your photo frame and tilt the front closest to the camera up towards the face. “It's a process and I always go in and darken the picture a little bit and add a contrast.”
It’s not all about the image though. “The key is to create beautiful work [to begin with], prepping the skin and taking time to do a good canvas before you add eye and lip colour.” So what is his base of choice? “I like natural skin,” he says. “My go to is the Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation, as it’s more sheer. I like a little less coverage, so I can add more or less where I need.”
If you're wondering what product his celebrity clients like the most, he reveals it's all about the lashes. “All my girls love the Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara. They all love it and use it- it's one of their favourite mascaras. And they like that I care about taking care of their skin before I start makeup.”
