Now, Sam has responded to the negative comments during an appearance on Sunrise.
"I auditioned for the role like everybody else," she told hosts Kochie and Nat. "Like months of waiting around thinking ‘I won’t get the job,’ but there have been some actors, (who) reached out that have said, ‘You know what, just letting you know like we’re really supporting you and we’re behind you’ so you know.
"I was hoping I could just go into it and you know the proofs in the pudding and hopefully I can perform well but I think some people are so stubborn in their opinions, I’m worried that regardless of how well I perform they’re still going to criticise me," she continued.
"But I’ve got enough support — so many supporters — so I’ve got to channel that and focus on that instead."
Sam continued on to thank former Home & Away star and fellow radio host Kate Richie for her support when the news broke.
"It was really lovely when I heard (Kate Ritchie) had stuck up for me — it was you know a bit comforting because obviously it’s a bit daunting going into a role like this thinking, you know, people want you to fail," she said. "It’s such an amazing opportunity and everybody has been so lovely and the producers and the cast and crew have been welcoming and divine so of course I want to take this opportunity."
Finally, Sam acknowledged that her big acting debut might not go to plan, but she wants to give it a good try.
"It might work, it might not but I’m going to give it a good crack I think," she said.
Sam also defended herself on Instagram last week, sharing a quote that said "Be Brave" on the social media platform.
"I am not afraid to challenge myself, to push through barriers," she captioned the pic.
“I work incredibly hard professionally and personally to constantly grow, learn and evolve. I have chosen to live my life embracing opportunities and challenges with open arms. It may work, it may not… but at least I can say I was brave enough to give it a shot," the post concluded.
Congrats to Sam on the role, we're sure she'll knock it out of the park.
