She has attended the event in a number of ways over the years; covering the red carpet as a journalist, as a presenter, as well as a guest. Sally Obermeder shared how her perspective had changed after attending a previous InStyle and Audi Women Of Style Awards night.
As the winner of the 2017 Reader's Choice award, Obermeder made an emotional speech, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. The Daily Edition host was 41 weeks pregnant with her first child when she was diagnosed with Stage Three breast cancer.
"This night means a lot to me," she said. "I had a night about five years ago when the editor at the time asked me to present an award and I was sick. I had cancer and I was right in the middle of my treatment, I honestly didn’t know if I would survive."
As she handed the award over to Miranda Kerr, who had won 2012's Most Stylish Woman, Obermeder remembers "the most overwhelming feeling that if I survived, the one thing I wanted to be was like the women in front of me. I want to be fearless... I remember thinking, 'If I’m lucky enough, if I live, that’s what I want to be.'”
