Prince Charles reportedly proposed to Camilla with a royal family heirloom. The impressive ring once belonged to the Queen Mother, who was very close with Charles. Photographs taken during the mid-1980s show Elizabeth wearing the diamond sparkler. However, it was not her engagement ring from King George VI. It is not known where she got the stunning piece.
The ring features an art deco design and five-carat emerald cut diamond in the centre, which is paired with a modest platinum gold wedding band and three diamond baguettes on each side. Deborah Papas, a gemologist from Prestige Pawnbrokers, told Metro that she estimates the value of the heirloom to be around a cool $288,000.
The ring is just one of the many jewellery pieces Camilla has acquired from the Queen Mother's bling collection. Camilla also regularly wears the Greville Tiara, another passed from Charles' grandmother.
Camilla isn't the only royal with an impressive piece on her wedding finger. Kate Middleton was proposed by Prince William with his late mother Princess Diana's iconic engagement ring. Meghan Markle's engagement ring from Prince Harry was designed by the royal using stones from the Princess of Wale's personal collection. Princess Eugenie's ring from Jack Brooksbank was a diamond ring inspired by her mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York's. It was also a diamond engagement ring that bore a striking similarity to that of Princess Margaret's.
Princess Anne was given a sapphire and diamond engagement ring from her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, and another sapphire and diamond ring for her second engagement to Sir Timothy Laurence, although the style and cut of the rings were different. Prince Philip had Queen Elizabeth II’s three-carat diamond ring made with diamonds from one of his mother’s (Princess Alice of Battenberg, later Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark) tiaras.
