On Thursday, the screen star took to Instagram to reveal her fresh cut and colour ahead of an event. With the help of celebrity hairstylist Peter Butler, Bilson chopped her signature long, layered lengths into a chic, choppy, shoulder-length style.
Not strictly a lob, Bilson’s hair falls a little longer to create the look of a “grown-out lob”. It’s the perfect middle-point for those with waist-length hair looking to take the plunge to go shorter.
Bilson kept her layers, which give texture and volume to the style and caramel highlights were added all-over to bring a sun-kissed warmth to her chestnut strands. Hairstylist to the stars, Butler, also shared the shot of Bilson on social media. He captioned his snap, “Cut your hair, change your life”.
Since stepping into the stoplight in 2003 with a starring role in cult TV series The O.C, Bilson has kept her hair enviously long. This shorter, lighter look will be her most significant change to date.
Variations on the bob – from grown-out “lobs” like Bilson’s to shorter, ear-grazing cuts – will be popular again this summer. As for summer hair colour, balayage is set for an update. Taking inspiration from the looks of the US summer just past, hairstylist will be playing with a technique dubbed “foliage”, where foils are placed higher up on the head to create less of a grown-out colour look.
