Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip has been admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London, according to an official statement from the British monarchy.
The Duke of Edinburgh will undergo planned surgery on his hip says the palace. On Sunday the Queen attended Easter mass, the 96-year-old was noticeably absent from the occasion.
Last June, Prince Philip spent two nights in hospital as a "precautionary measure" for the treatment of an undisclosed infection.
In May 2017, Prince Philip announced that he would be retiring from from all royal duties, following an eleventh hour emergency meeting which sent the internet into a spin. His last official public appearance was in August, 2017.
According to royal experts, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle planned a short engagement to accommodate the British consort's ailing health. The couple will tie the know on May, 19 and it's hoped Philip will be in attendance.
