Pinterest have released their annual Travel Trend Report, and it seems 2018 is all about travelling solo and enjoying luxurious long weekends away. Um, sign us up!
With over 4 billion travel ideas being shared and pinned on the site, it's no wonder they've got intel on how we're planning to spend our precious holiday leave this year.
According to the report, long weekend ideas are up 167% and so are sightseeing stopover ideas (+90%) to match those getaways. People are also keen to get off the beaten track and discover small town destinations (+94%) and secret spots (+83%).
Interestingly, solo travel adventures are up 593% in popularity, proving that 2018 is all about being independent on the road. After all, who wants to argue over which attraction to go see next or what day to leave your current destination when you can just travel alone and "do you?"
Of course, cuisine is one of the most important factors when deciding on a destination. So, naturally, food-fuelled searches have increased on Pinterest, with restaurant guides (+207%), vegetarian friendly (+218%) and vegan friendly (+183%) food spots all up in popularity.
You know what goes great with food? Wine. Obviously. Pinterest aficionados are also keen to explore vineyards and tasting rooms around the globe this year, with saves for wine trips up more than 119%.
The next best thing to satiating your appetite on a well-earned break is, of course, having an adventure!
Wellness tours may have been the big ticket item in 2017, but 2018 has seen a spike in high action activities with increased searches for bike tours (+142%) and surf classes (+260%).
There's also been a peak of interest in more, er, refined activities such as cooking classes (+81%), food photography workshops (+207%), and art tours (+84%).
