The fourth season of Outlander ended on a breathtaking cliffhanger no one saw coming by the fact it didn’t happen in any of Diana Gabaldon’s books. Fans currently in the midst of droughtlander, the dreaded time between show’s seasons, can now breathe a sigh of relief. Season five is on its way and giving us 12 delicious new episodes to add to our binge list.

Here’s everything you need to know about Season 5 of Outlander.

When Will The Film Be Released?
The time traveling drama’s fourth season concluded in late January, which means we’re in overdrive wondering what’s in store for Claire and Jamie come season five.

While there isn’t an official release date yet, producers and insiders have already spilled on what we can expect for the upcoming fifth season, as well as when and where Australian audiences can watch it.

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” said  Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement.

Like all previous seasons, season five will be released on Foxtel’s Showcase channel, as well as being streamable on Netflix.

The First Sneak Peek Has Been Released

In April the Claire Fraser actress, Caitriona Balfe, posted a sneak peek of the first episode of the season on her Instagram account. The preview may be spoiler free, but it’s left us buzzing with anticipation.

“Mums the word on what’s inside …. but here it is Ep 1 Season 💥5💥,” Balfe wrote in the caption of the picture, which showed her holding up a copy of the script.


There’s A Furry New Cast Member
If the men weren’t already irresistible enough the show’s official Twitter account released that another furry actor is joining the Fraser clan.

“We have a very im-purr-tent casting announcement… who could it be?!” teased the account, before posting this adorable photo of the kitten named Adso with co-star Sam Heughan, who plays character Jamie Fraser on the series.

What Is Season Five About?

Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, seasons five will play out over 12 episodes respectively and will be based on material from the fifth book in the Outlander series, entitled The Fiery Cross, as well as the sixth book in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” said  Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement.

Picking up right where things left off, Jamie and Claire have decided to stay in North Carolina and establish their community of Fraser’s Ridge. The timing isn’t great because the American Revolution up and coming. With each episode the series uncovers just how far they are willing to go to protect their home, with prayers that there will be no reason to light the “fiery cross,” an ancient Scottish call to arms.

This may sound intense, but don’t worry. If there are two people who will find time for passion amid all of this, it’s Jamie and Claire. They don’t call it a historical, romantic, sexy, time-travel drama for nothing!
