For the autumn/winter ‘19/’20 season, designers were all about creativity, having fun and creating clothes that women can actually wear. Whether it was tradition reigning supreme at Ralph Lauren or sultry, pared-back femininity at Tom Ford, there was plenty to see from the week’s heavyweights. On the other end, emerging brands and cool girl labels like Khaite, Eckhaus Latta and Maryam Nassir Zadeh have become favourites for another reason, bringing a fresh youthfulness to the city and providing ample inspiration for the months ahead.
Below, our fashion editors have rounded up all the must see looks from the week, providing an insight into the brands and pieces everyone will be wearing come autumn. You’re welcome!
LULU CUSTANCE, Market Editor and Fashion Office Manager
Khaite
“I loved seeing Khaite’s puffed sleeve shirts paired with straight leg blue jeans. Definitely an autumn look I’ll be trying for myself!”
“Who could go past those cosy blanket-stitched coats? Enough to make anyone dream of cooler weather.”
FRANCESCA WALLACE, Senior Digital Fashion Editor
Kate Spade
“Kate Spade’s poppy prints and silky fabrics had me totally enthralled from the get go. I can’t stop thinking about this sparkly two piece!”
Sies Marjan
“Sies Marjan’s collection was all about love, and let me tell you that I loved this twisted take on lace and colour. I’m definitely no fan of neon, but Sander Lak’s take on the usually too-bright hue has me very, very happy. I want this!”
NATALIE MELL, Fashion News Editor:
Khaite
“I’m pining for a pair of leather pants this season, and Khaite presented the perfect pair. High-waisted and not too tight—just right! The label’s first-ever runway show was full of pieces I could see in my wardrobe, from cotton-poplin dresses and cashmere sweaters, to the denim that helped launch the brand into the spotlight back in 2016.”
LUCY WOOD, Junior Fashion Editor:
Kate Spade
“This is definitely a look I would love to recreate once the temperate drops. I love incorporating colour into my wardrobe all year round, and so this printed maxi paired with pastel suede boots stood out to me.”
Tomo Koizumi
“I love fashion that makes me smile, and so seeing Tomo Koizumi’s NYFW debut flooding Instagram was such a delight! Voluminous rainbow ombré ruffles, need I say more?”
