Mischa Barton has spoken about a leaked sex tape being shopped around to porn sites this week. The tape was alleged to "star" Mischa, and now she has called a press conference to reveal that she is the victim of a revenge porn attack.
The O.C. star confirmed that her "absolute worst fear was realised" as an ex had taken non-consensual, explicit photos and videos of her and was attempting to sell them. Her lawyer, Lisa Bloom, confirmed that they had obtained an emergency restraining order and filed a police report against the ex.
"I just want to say I've been through an incredibly hard and trying time," Mischa told the press. "This is a painful situation and my absolute worst fear was realised when I learned that someone I thought I love and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments without my consent, with hidden cameras. And then I learned something even worse—that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public."
"I came forward to fight this not only for myself, but for all the women out there," she continued.
Bloom went on to reveal that neither she or Mischa have seen the tapes in question.
"Revenge porn is a very common crime that happens to a lot of people," Bloom said. "It happens to people who are not celebrities. It happens to the girls and women who are followers of Ms. Barton and it's scary, even for a celebrity to stand up like this, but it's important for girls and women to stand up for our rights."
When a reporter claimed that, in one shot of the footage, Mischa appears to look at the camera, Bloom shut it down.
"I don't think looking at any particular direction is an indication of knowing that one is being recorded," Bloom said.
The violation of Mischa's privacy is yet another gross example of how women - in everyday life and in the entertainment industry - are targeted for the sole purpose of humiliation and "revenge." We're proud of the actress for speaking out on such a difficult and personal issue.
