Miley Cyrus is heading back to her roots.
The singer debuted a snippet of her new love ballad for fiancé Liam Hemsworth today, and it's got the low-key sweet melody of a traditional Miley tune pre 2012.
She'll unveil the video clip for Malibu, the first single off her upcoming album, at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday 21st of May, but she shared a small part with fans today:
Sounds pretty, right? Malibu was written as a way to cope with the lack of privacy their relationship faces in the public eye, she revealed. "They’re going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam," she told Billboard. "So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, “This is how I feel”?"
"I needed to change so much," Miley also said of their split. "And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard. Suddenly you’re like, “I don’t recognize you anymore.” We had to refall for each other."
Miley shared the cover art for the new single on Instagram earlier today, revealing it was shot by Liam himself. She also told fans that the full song drops in the US on the 11th, so we should expect to hear it some time tonight or tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!
