Yesterday, Miley Cyrus performed her new single 'Slide Away' at the MTV VMAs. The song, which was released just one week after she announced her separation from husband Liam Hemsworth, is widely rumoured to be about her marriage breakdown, which made headlines after she was spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter in Italy.
Despite numerous reports that the pair are just friends, the singer brought Kaitlynn as her plus one to the awards ceremony, where they were spotted affectionately kissing backstage and holding hands on the way to the after party.
According to ET, 'the two were seen holding hands, and at one point, Carter even put her hand on Cyrus' butt.' An eyewitness told the website that "they looked very much like a couple."
Kaitlynn also attended Miley's rehearsal earlier in the day and was swaying at the side of the stage. "Afterward, the two walked backstage, hugging each other," the source told ET.
The two were also spotted holding hands on their way to an after-party.
