Sure, there’s nothing like a little bit of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” or Michael Bublé’s “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” to put you in a jolly festive mood. Miley Cyrus, however, has taken a leaf out of Wham!’s book, with her new Christmas song “My Sad Christmas Song” – an ode to all the broken-hearted this holiday season.

Last night, Cyrus took to Instagram and Twitter to share a poignant message about the very real experience of feeling lonely during the holiday season, despite being surrounded by family and friends. The post included a link to the song on her Soundcloud, which we’ve now discovered was a previously unreleased song that Cyrus wrote years ago.
"A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays," she began in her post. "Was feeling like shit cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone. In ways that still feels relevant and someone reading this right now could possibly relate! If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC!”
Some of the songs most notable lyrics include, "I turn on the radio / I binge watch our favorite shows / This year feels kind of lame / But the last one was the same." Definitely a change in tone from the upbeat tunes we’re used to hearing on repeat this time of year.
In the post, Cyrus opened up to her social media fans about her own challenges during the festive season and encouraged them to remember that it is entirely normal to feel a certain way during what can be an overwhelmingly busy and chaotic time of year. Naturally, her honesty (and the song, of course) was a resounding success with her fans, who responded to her messages with words of support and appreciation.
