7AM Suit up: Depending on what we have planned for the day we will usually opt for denim and a Pereira Fitzgerald blouse paired with a statement shoe. Gemma’s favourite shoes at the moment are a pair of Charlotte Olympia pink kitten heels.
8AM Team work: We meet at the coffee shop next to our office for our second dose of caffeine, and are ready to hit the ground running in the office by 8am. As we are a week out from MBFWA, each day is constantly changing and evolving. Planning for our first MBFWA show takes a lot of foresight, flawless communication and meticulous management across PR, show production and garment production. We have the most incredible team that makes this possible.
9AM Design time: We check in with our makers to see how they are tracking and then spend the morning refining the collection and finalising finishes. We are deeply involved in each step of our production process—each finish and detail is purposefully chosen.
Resort 2019: This collection is inspired by feminine strength. Our pieces evoke a classic sense of femininity through the use of soft and glamorous fabrications, which contrast sharp tailoring and dramatic silhouettes. Our intention is to capture the duality of womanhood—feminine yet unapologetically powerful.
3PM Recharge: We somehow manage to work through lunch nearly every day. At about 3pm we will emerge from the office to find a snack. During MBFWA preparations we enjoy spoiling ourselves with decadent lunches. Today we are sitting down to two bowls of pappardelle at a local Italian restaurant. We pay the bill and can’t resist the gelato cabinet, so we each order a scoop of hazelnut to go.
4PM Event prep: As we have an event this evening, the amazing Jacqueline from TIGI (our incredible hair partner for MBFWA) is visiting to style our hair.
6PM Wine time: Before running off to the event we have a quick meeting with our pattern maker. This finishes up a little earlier than expected, so we are able to sneak in a glass of wine at The Dolphin in Surry Hills.
10PM Power through: Working with a range of different time zones can be challenging. Late in the evening when our European contacts are at work we will reach out for updates on deliveries.
11PM Always smiling: Many nights in the office in the lead up to MBFWA will stretch past midnight. Although it is a crazy time for us, we are having so much fun and manage to laugh all day long. This is an important part of the Pereira Fitzgerald process!
