In a new interview with The Daily Telegraph, Matty J has opened up about the nastiness of certain ~high schoolish~ contestants and he's not naming any names, of course.
So what does Matty J think of the antics that he didn't see during filming?
"I knew there were friendships forming and I knew there were tensions forming between certain people, I just didn’t know the ins and outs. That’s what I am discovering … It’s always disappointing to see a group of people not getting along," he told the Telegraph.
"I was always playing pretty close attention to all the people in the house, not only when I was with them one on one but in a group environment as well because I was aware that someone could be on their best behaviour in front of me, but then who they were around others would be their true colours," he said.
"I was aware of how their personalities would unravel … now that the show has ended I feel like I’ve got a very accurate reading of people in the house, but at the time I had to give people the benefit of the doubt."
Fans on Twitter have accused the show, once again, of keeping the 'villains' for ratings, even when it's clear they have no romantic connection.
In his interview with the Telegraph, Matty even compared the 'villains' to those in his own season, citing the clear difference between the male and female contestants.
"It was tricky at times when you’re competing against each other, in a sense, for the same person, but we were able to put that behind us and just get along," he said of his previous season. "But for some reason it’s not as simple for the girls, particularly my season. And I don’t know why that is?"
Of course, Matty isn't the only one to notice this. While the majority of the male contestants actually seem like interesting and compatible matches for the bachelorette, a higher number of the the female contestants just seem to be chosen for their 'villainous' qualities AKA bitching, sniping and overreacting to mundane situations.
Don't get us wrong, we all remember Sam Johnson and David Witko - the male models with major egos - but they were more ~smug~ than downright nasty.
So the question remains: when can The Bachelor become as entertaining as The Bachelorette, and ditch the tired, old "women cat-fighting" narrative? Probably never.
Anyway, now that we know how Matty J feels, here's how the fans are feeling about the boring old villains...
We can't wait to see how this turns out! By that, we mean, we can't wait until we find out more about the other contestants who actually stand a chance of winning.
