Any Married At First Sight fan could attest to the fact that Ashley Irvin's "husband" Troy Delmege is... difficult. Along with his disturbing pasta recipe, and his total obsession with his own appearance, there's the fact that he has continuously pressured Ashley to become "intimate" while also complaining about their lack of intimacy non-stop on national TV. A real class act, that Troy.
Somehow, Ashley has become the target of online abuse for being a "brat" on the show. Honestly, we're not sure how any fan could consider her as the problem in this pseudo-marriage, but her sister, Summer Irvin, was quick to slam both the show and the bullies.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Summer detailed the "fake" and "staged" situation Ashley had been put in by MAFS producers and showed support for her sister.
"It breaks my heart to see you get upset over strangers opinions on the internet who know nothing about you. Ashley is the funniest, most positive, harmless person you will ever meet. She never has a bad word to say about anyone and will make you laugh within 2 minuets of meeting her," Summer wrote.
"You applied to go on a show and meet the man of your dreams, little did you know you got matched with someone who didn’t even apply (when over 7000 did) and every time you actually wanted to have a genuine conversation that wasn’t for the camera you got a cold shoulder. You were tested every step of the way and deliberately were pushed beyond anyone’s breaking point and you handled yourself with class and dignity," she continued.
"As much as Troy is a goofball he also does a fantastic job playing up for the cameras who is currently doing an excellent job in carving his path for a future in TV. I’m sorry you got dragged along for the ride and I’m sorry Australia is believing his feelings for you are genuine when the only genuine thing about the show is you rolling your eyes to his antics because only you are aware at how fake he is."
She concluded, "Ashley I love you and I know you will one day find the love you so deserve.... I will defend you fearlessly and I am so glad I saw through this bullshit from the moment I laid eyes on him #familyforever."
Followers quickly showed support for Ashley on the post.
"She had the patience of a saint," wrote one fan.
"It’s become super apparent this year that the experts are matching at least some people based on getting ratings/creating drama and not to help them find love. I’m sure Ashley and Ryan at least have become collateral in that process," wrote another.
"I feel sorry for her, knew he was an actor," wrote another.
The post also had support from fellow MAFS contestants. It was liked by Ryan, who is currently being treated like garbage on the show by Davina. It was also commented on by former contestants including Clare Verrall and Simone Brennan.
"Jono (my fake husband) was approached to be on the show as well. If everyone saw what REALLY went on there would be an outcry!" wrote Clare.
"Sounds all too familiar. It was so difficult to act like I was “appreciative” of my husband’s romantic gestures when they only occurred when literally when the cameras were turned on," wrote Simone.
