The first look at Netflix's new film Marriage Story has just been released, and it's a tearjerker. Described as an "incisive and compassionate portrait" of a marriage falling apart, the comedy-drama follows Charlie, played by Adam Driver, and Nicole, played by Scarlett Johansson, who are trying to keep their family together while going through a devastating divorce.
Watch the heartbreaking trailer below.
The movie, which is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Noah Baumbach, also stars Laura Dern, Alan Alda and Ray Liotta and will premiere at Venice Film Festival on August 29th.

Our first look at what to expect comes from two teaser trailers released today, showing the perspectives of both Charlie and Nicole. In each clip, the protagonists are made to answer, "What do you love about your partner?" While they recount what they love about each other, complimenting scenes play out, but both trailers end the same way: with a heartbreaking courtroom scene, before a shot of the couple sitting opposite each other in an apartment with Nicole saying, "I thought we should talk."
In a Netflix press release, Bambach explained that Marriage Story is "a love story that reveals itself within the breakdown."
He continued, explaining why he chose to release two separate teaser trailers. "With these companion trailers I wanted to show the relationship through the eyes of both characters. There are many sides to every story, and the movie embraces these different viewpoints in order to find the shared truth."
Marriage Story is released on Netflix this spring.
