“This is makeup that ‘looks like I’ve had my makeup done’ and is more refined, elegant, polished and beautiful,” celebrity makeup artist Nikki Wolff told Glamour. Coining the trend ‘Makeup Haute Couture’, she says, “In short - I think this season we’re going to see the return of makeup.”
“I’m talking bigger liner, fuller lashes, more blush or a striking deep red pout.”
Want to get the look? Here’s how:
Start with airbrushed skin
While you’re welcome to let your freckles shine through and go for a more sheer coverage, a polished base is what you're after. Think airbrushed with a semi-matte finish that appears natural yet flawless.
Amplify your eyes
This trend isn’t necessarily about going wild with colour; instead, use your makeup skills to enhance your features and really make them pop. “When it comes to eyes, don’t be afraid to go bigger,” says Nikki. “Bigger liner, bigger lashes and more definition.” Use all the shades in your palette to highlight and contour around the lids and brow bone to accentuate your eye shape.
Be liberal with the blush
Remember, it’s okay to look like you have makeup on with this Makeup Haute Couture trend, so don’t be shy with that cheek colour. Blush has a lovely way of brightening and warming up the complexion, so it’s hard to go wrong. Just keep these two tips in mind: When applying it, focus on the areas where you naturally blush, that way, even if the colour payoff is intense, the placement won’t be harsh; Secondly, use a blush with a gel texture rather than a powder formula. The way a gel or liquid blush interacts with the skin delivers a more real-looking result that won't come off looking doll-like.
