The paparazzi shots of the couple enjoying a date in the Big Apple went viral but Brown insists that she isn't seeking the limelight.
"As a model or as an actor when you are successful in those industries, fame eventually becomes a part of it and so I just see it as being part of the job," she told the publication.
"But it's never been something that I've outwardly pursued."
Cyrus and Hemsworth ended their decade-long relationship in August.
Confirming the news, Hemsworth took to Instagram to pen a touching tribute to the songstress alongside a cryptic sunset snap.
"Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward," he wrote.
"This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."
Two weeks after the split, Cyrus started dating reality television star Kaitlynn Carter before moving on with current boyfriend Cody Simpson.
She first met the 22-year-old singer several years ago and their friendship only recently blossomed into romance.
Back in December 2015, Simpson opened up about Cyrus in an interview with GQ Australia: "Miley is one of my best friends and she helps with some of that transitional stuff - trying to escape your childhood. She's super open-minded and I'm working on becoming more like that."
Fast-forward seven years and he recently revealed that the couple are "very, very happy".
Hemsworth has yet to confirm his relationship with Brown.
