While Christie is noticeably absent from Maurice's Instagram page, the Love Island star features prominently on the Sydney-based influencer's feed.
Following the series first episode, Christie released a 17-minute video on YouTube explaining that she had "no idea" of the deception.
"As you'd be able to see from all of my socials, for the last several months I have been dating a guy called Maurice," she started. "I was so open with my relationship - I talk about it on my YouTube channel, we'd do posts together, we would literally jump on lives."
"It was an open thing," she adds.
Continuing, Christie says "We did break it off - but according to this guy, he's been single for the last six months".
The story then takes a turn, as Maurice tells Christie that he had been cast as an actor on the ad. "It's just the ad - don't worry," he told her.
One week after the ad went to air, Maurice broke things off with Christie. Two weeks later, he was in Fiji to begin filming for Love Island.
The situation is almost identical to that of Grant Crapp on last year's series. Despite taking home the top prize with then-girlfriend Tayla Damir, Grant had a partner on the outside the entire time.
While Grant claimed to have been single for more than two years before hitting the villa, he was pictured with Lucy and her family in cosy social media posts just before leaving for Spain, where Love Island was filmed. The pair quickly called it quits after the show wrapped and Grant went back to Lucy, and the couple are currently together.
We can't wait to see how this plays out.
