Miss Universe Australia 2008 Laura Dundovic is a realist when it comes to eating well and keeping in shape. Ahead of her sharing her wisdom with the masses at the upcoming Wellness Festivals in Brisbane on Saturday September 3 and Sydney on Saturday October 15 (tickets available here), she was kind enough to share her best tips for staying motivated with us.
How do you start your day?
With a glass of warm water, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, fresh ginger and raw honey.
So many fitness buffs seem to be morning people. How do I become a morning person?
I don't think you need to be a morning person to be a fitness buff! I personally prefer exercising in the afternoon but to motivate myself I always set my alarm tone to a good song and make sure I get to bed at a decent hour, I am for before 10. In Chinese medicine every hour before 10 is worth 2 after.
What do you typically have for breakfast?
I have oats and berries with ground cinnamon or a soft-boiled egg on rye bread with smashed avocado and cayenne pepper.
What’s your favourite method of exercise and why?
Running! I love cardio because I find I switch off during it! In terms of what I think is best for my body I think a mix of cardio and weights.
What’s on your workout playlist?
Bryson Tiller, Kanye West, PartyNextDoor and The Game at the moment.
Is there a surprising fact about diet or exercise you could share?
I don't diet, I eat well and often. I find if I skip a meal or eat late that's when I make bad choices or over-eat so I am always prepared.
What do you like to snack on?
I make treats. I love chocolate, so to make sure I'm not tempted I make refined sugar-free treats. Different ones all the time to kill any cravings or I have homemade smoothies.
What’s your guilty treat?
Chocolate, but since making my own treats I don't crave it as much!
Do you have any tips you could share that help you stay motivated?
- Make an amazing playlist.
- Mix it up.
- Work out with friends and organise to do running or workout events so you have something to work hard for.
- Make your life more active. Instead of going for a coffee I'll go for a walk along the beach with friends. I try to move, even just like that once a day.
What’s the last thing you do before falling asleep?
Meditate! They say it's best in the morning but I think we spend pretty much half our lives sleeping so I like to go to bed with a clear head and then I wake up better. Deepak Chopra is the man!
