Stay In Style
Whether you’re travelling with a partner or planning a girls’ trip to Las Vegas, selecting the right accommodation is paramount—and with nearly 125,000 guestrooms across the city, you’re wildly spoilt for choice. Our tip: eschew the popular themed hotels and go for all-out luxury at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, right in the heart of the famous strip. Request a fountain-view room to indulge in a bubble bath with a front-row vista of the iconic Bellagio Hotel’s water feature. The newly opened Park MGM (above) features lushly decorated suites that provide some calm away from the chaos. Or, if you’re packing more bikinis than party dresses, the 40,000-square-foot pool deck at the SLS Las Vegas offers private cabanas next to an oversized floating bar. Enough said.
Eat, Drink... And Eat Again
Abandon thoughts of faded celebrity chefs and brash all-you-can-eat banquets—those in the know will attest to the city’s culinary pleasures beyond such clichés. Locals recommend starting the day with breakfast at the Parisian- inspired Primrose cafe, where French pastries and coffee will help soothe persistent jet lag (or late-night excess). For a tasty challenge, take on a paella-cooking class at Jaleo. Later, dress up for dinner and drinks at Rose. Rabbit. Lie., a supper club that brings the entertainment to you with live theatre and bands. And make sure to stop for a martini at the Delano’s Skyfall Lounge (above) for a bird’s eye view of those famous Vegas lights. You’ll also want to head downtown to experience the city’s less flashy food hotspots—Lip Smacking Foodie Tours offers guided dining adventures packed with insider knowledge of the historic neighbourhood.
It’s near impossible to “do Vegas” without indulging in some retail therapy. Located a short distance from The Strip, Fashion Show Mall houses all of your favourite high-street brands alongside cult US labels such as Anthropologie, plus department stores you can’t visit at home— think Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
To recover from time spent shopping and eating, a little pampering may be required. Make a reservation at the decadent Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace and take your pick from the relaxation rooms to help while away the hours until your next adventure. For hands-on healing, head to the Sahra Spa & Hammam at The Cosmopolitan and book in for a Signature Massage. When calm and centred, head for an appointment at nearby Drybar —this fun salon offers fuss-free blow-dries along with drinks and a convivial atmosphere that will get you revved up for the evening ahead (or feeling fabulous for a night in with room service, because that’s also encouraged).
Vegas is one of the entertainment capitals of the world, and there is no shortage of dazzling live shows spanning every imaginable genre. The city’s enduring live scene has long been a drawcard for pop artists; following in the footsteps of Britney Spears and Celine Dion, the Backstreet Boys are the latest act to take up a residency—catch the ’90s heart-throbs performing their hits at Planet Hollywood until November. For pinch-me theatrics, don’t miss the aquatic acrobatic extravaganza that is Le Rêve, which plays out on an impressive custom-built stage within the Wynn Hotel. Just ensure you book tickets before your trip—sell-out shows are standard.
