Beauty: "I don’t use foundation, but I love the Chantecaille mascara from Mecca ($105; mecca.com.au). It’s a really beautiful mascara for long heavenly lashes, and it's cruelty free."
Hair: "I love the Aveda dry shampoo ($32; aveda.com.au), which is the only non-aerosol dry shampoo on the market. It helps provide grit for freshly washed hair, which makes it much easier to style. The Aveda systems all feature beautiful plant-derived products, support global sustainability initiatives and are never tested on animals."
Medicine cabinet: "We use Korres organic toothpaste ($14; mecca.com.au), and I use a lot of eucalyptus and essential oils around the home."
Homewares: "I’ve got a mix of antique Japanese and French pieces that I mix with modern design. The key is to select pieces that are long lasting and loved."
Fashion: "Stay away from anything nylon, polyester or artificial, but if you must, up cycled is better. Consider if it needs high frequency washing or dry cleaning and what the life cycle of the garment looks like, what it will take to keep it clean, and where it could end up. Hemp, linen, silk and wool are all great fibres—there’s not a lot of water contaminated when they’re created, and they all compost into the earth."
Three changes to make now:
1. "No plastic bags—I shop with boxes and reusable bags (KITX Collection no 10 features the Ban the Bag bag for the first time), and I don’t wrap veggies or fruit in plastic when I’m buying. A brown paper bag or just loose in the cart is fine."
2. "I try to buy as little food packaged in plastic as I can, there’s usually an alternative"
3. "I love my Frank Green coffee cup and water bottles—aim for zero single use coffee cups and plastic bottles in the office!"
