At the annual CFDA Awards in N.Y.C. on Monday, Kim Kardashian West received the organisation’s inaugural Influencer Award—a suitable honour considering her rise from Paris Hilton’s assistant to one of the most, well, influential women in America.
I mean, the woman even is even influencing the president. (Or trying to, at least.)
Kardashian arrived at The Brooklyn Museum to scoop up her award in a high-neck crop top with a scoop back and a matching white maxiskirt by fashion's favorite long-haired experimentalist, Rick Owens. She accessorized with stacks of golden bangles and a high textured ponytail that had us wondering if she was going to start walking like an Egyptian down the red carpet.
While accepting the award, the 37-year-old queen of shade made sure to call out her critics. "I'm kind of shocked that I'm winning a fashion award when I'm naked most of the time," she joked onstage.
In her speech, Kardashian also reflected on her journey to becoming a bona fide fashion icon, revealing that a former publicist of hers told her she’d never be on the cover of a fashion magazine. “Of course I sent her my Vogue cover when it came out, an autographed copy,” the social media star shared.
Earlier in the evening, Kardashian abandoned the spotlight to discuss one of her favorite topics: husband Kanye West.
In his new album Ye, West opens up about Kardashian’s reaction to his controversial comments on slavery, rapping: "My wife callin', screamin', say, 'We 'bout to lose it all!' / Had to calm her down 'cause she couldn't breathe / Told her she could leave me now, but she wouldn't leave."
“Did I cry about it? Did I fight about it? Yeah,” Kim told Entertainment Tonight. “That’s not stuff we put on social media—I'm not going to start tweeting what my thoughts are, but we have those moments and that was the one song that he didn't really play for me until the last minute, so I heard that last minute and it meant a lot to me,” she said. “I really like that song. But yeah, we have different views sometimes, but that's my husband, you know?”
Kardashian continued to praise her husband and his latest success, sharing, “I'm so happy that it’s been well-received because I've seen him go through a lot and he's just the most genuine person. He might say things that might get misinterpreted and people don't see the context behind it, but I always know his heart, so I'm glad that it was really well-received.”
