In a colourful nod to this year's theme Camp: Notes on Fashion, Kendall and Kylie Jenner arrived together on the red carpet. The sartorially savvy sisters made a statement in neon orange and purple and orange gowns.
Kendall Jenner has become synonymous at this point with chic and somewhat revealing red carpet looks. Who can forget her 2017 Met Gala naked dress by La Perla? Always ahead of the trends, her street style and effortlessly cool red carpet outfits make her one of the world's biggest style icons.
While youngster sister Kylie has previously opted for relatively safe choices - namely Alexander Wang in 2018 and Versace in 2017.
The Met Gala is held annually on the first Monday of May as a fundraising event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum. The gala has run since 1948, with the famous annual themes coming in to effect in 1995 and corresponding to the theme of that year's exhibition at the Costume Institute.
As with previous themes, like 2013's Punk: Chaos to Couture and more recently, 2018's Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, this year's theme Camp: Notes on Fashion provides guests with a wide variety of inspiration. The theme was drawn from Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on Camp". The essay details an aesthetic marked by excess, outlandish performance and a sense of self aware bad taste.
