As the fashion world mourns the death of visionary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, we’re looking back at his illustrious legacy and his unique pearls of wisdom. Although he will always be best known for his work on Chanel and Fendi, he will also be remembered for his eccentric lifestyle, iconic quotes, and his beloved pet, Choupette.
Back in 2014, the Kaiser (as the German-born icon was dubbed) shared a rare look into his daily beauty regimen. Where he revealed the secret to maintaining his signature white tresses is just his favourite dry shampoo from the pharmacy.
Lagerfeld famously detested washing his locks, “I never shower because my hair gets curly and I hate curly hair,” he told marie claire U.K.Karl added, “After my bath, I apply Klorane dry shampoo to make my hair bright white. I have a special powder room with sliding doors and lit mirrors to do this in. If I didn’t it would go all over the place and I’d have to clean every perfume bottle and everything else – no, no, no.” Considering Karl's cat Choupette has two dedicated maids, we’re not surprised he has a room set aside for just for hair care.
“I always wear a ponytail as I hate hair going in my face. I don’t know how people can leave their hair down – I would be frantic within five minutes.”

When it comes to skincare, Karl was fastidious about his anti-aging routine keeping a rotation of high-end products on hand.
"There is a fridge in my bathroom to keep my skincare in. I look after my skin. When I turned 24 my mother said, ‘Now you’re 24, it goes downhill.’ I thought it was 27, but she said, ‘No, 24.’ I try a lot of creams because I get sent so many. Most of the time I use the ones from Chanel, Sisley, Creme de la Mer, Clinique, and La Prairie, which are all very good."
