If being a model, actor and beauty entrepreneur wasn’t enough, Jessica Gomes can now add designer to her resume. A year since signing on as the face of Jets Swimwear Gomes and the local label have taken their partnership one step further by collaborating on a capsule collection. The swim range is set to debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, and Gomes, who is opening and closing tomorrow’s show, will be the first to present her designs in the flesh.
InStyle was lucky enough to preview the collection, which includes six sexy yet streamlined swimwear cuts—plus one chic jumpsuit. But don’t just take our word for it, read on to see the pieces for yourself...
Congratulations on your collaboration with Jets! What was your starting point for the collection?
“Thank you! I wanted to create a line that was simple and sophisticated. I’m always travelling so I wanted the range to reflect my jet-set lifestyle.”
What sort of woman did you have in mind when designing?
“The modern woman who is short on time and just wants something that makes her look refined and feel her best."
What was the most surprising thing that designing the collection taught you?
“How complicated we can make things! I think simplicity is key and I really wanted to bring back sleek styling."
That direction is evident in the colour palette you chose...
“That’s my aesthetic. I love black & champaign, they’re two classic colours that never date and suit all complexions.”
Has your experience as a swimsuit model informed your designs?
“Yes of course. Having tried on countless swimsuits on over the years I have really educated myself on what looks amazing and what fabrics feel good.”
What’s your favourite piece from the new collection?
“My favourite piece is definitely the keyhole one piece. It’s has a classic '80s Elle Macpherson vibe.”
Are you usually a one piece woman?
“I love a one piece for runway and resort, but I also love a bikini for beach holidays to help with my tan!”
What excites you the most about debuting your collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia this year?
“I’m excited for everyone to see the collection and I hope people love it just as much I do. The last time Jets did fashion week was in 2001, so it’s really exciting to be a big part of the show.”
What sort of atmosphere can we expect?
“A very fun and electric atmosphere. It's going to be a sexy show.”
How are you prepping for the runway?
“I’m eating very clean and running every morning. I’m also getting facials and massages and just really taking care of myself.”
Now that you know what it’s like to design a collection, would you do it again?
“Yes! I love being creative. It's so much fun and I love to express my artistic side.”
