With 406,000 Instagram followers, lucrative ambassadorships and an AFL-star husband, it would be easy to pigeonhole Jesinta Franklin.
Spend a little time in her company, though, and you’ll encounter a smart, honest and driven woman, wise beyond her 27 years. Now, she’s taking time to refocus on what’s truly important.
EMILY TAYLOR: You grew up in the Gold Coast hinterland. What was your childhood like?
JESINTA FRANKLIN: We spent all of our time outdoors. I remember catching yabbies in the creek. We had a billycart that we found at a garage sale one day, and we had slingshots. We’d play in the dam and catch tadpoles. It was relaxed and simple.
ET: Do you ever think about returning?
JF: I have such fond memories of growing up and I love the Gold Coast. I have a deep yearning to go back there. [It’s] my goal and my dream, but of course goals and dreams have to align with husband’s goals and dreams, too!
ET: Do you think you could convince [your husband] Buddy?
JF: When we have a family it’s definitely something to think about. That next chapter, growing up with more space around you, and really thinking about how you want your children to be raised. I feel like our roots are quite similar. [Buddy and I both had] quite a simple upbringing, so that’s what we envision for our family moving forward.
The 27-year-old, who married Lance 'Buddy' Franklin last June, says her immediate focus is on her family. “I always knew what I wanted in life and the things I really placed value on, but there was a lot of clarity at that moment. Family and health is everything.
“I feel like we’re so caught up, especially in this digital age, (that) the more you can get back to the simple life, the better.”
