The line will appeal to Buddy’s followers, no matter the team they back, Jesinta explains. “I said to him, “Why would you not do something that people can wear to the game who want to support you? You have so many incredible fans and I think it would be nice to be able to offer them something different”, she says of the inspiration behind the brand.
“He’s really been across the design because at the end of the day it’s his name and his face he’s putting to it, but I’ve been helping out from behind the scenes,” the model and ambassador continues. “He has very limited time, so I said, ‘Whatever I can help you with on this I’m more than willing to do it’. So, I have to say, ‘OK, today is Buddy day’, or “today is Jesinta day’. It’s been great, and I’ve learnt so much.
When asked what it was like for the couple to collaborate so closely on a business project, Jesinta laughs: “Yes and no! It’s funny because our personal time together is so limited so this has been chewing into that – he’ll come home and I will have sent him a calendar invite (for a meeting) and I’ll make it really professional and then he’ll say, ‘Do you know it’s proven that after 20 minutes you lose concentration?’, and I’m like, “So you’re telling me that our hour meeting is now 20 minutes?”. She smiles, “So it has been testing and we’ve definitely had our differences but at the end of the day we both have [the] same goal with it.
The plan for the line is to start slow and build from Buddy’s loyal fan base. “We’ll be selling it online to begin with and then hopefully roll out after that.”
So, has there been a lot of footy gear talk at home lately? “It’s so funny because when I see [Buddy] I see nothing to do with football. I see my husband, a really loving and funny man and it’s kind of a bit strange – then I have these moments when [I see him play and] it makes me feel really proud.
