What do you get when you mix pop icon and arguably movie icon (Maid in Manhatten, anyone?) Jennifer Lopez with Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu and a true story about scammers who stole from wealthy Wall Street men who frequented their strip club? Hustlers, the movie that we're anticipating more than any other this year.
On top of main characters Lopez and Wu, the film stars Cardi B, Lizzo, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart and Julia Stiles and is based off a 2015 New York Magazine piece 'The Hustlers at Scores,' in which journalist Jessica Pressler writes about Samantha Barbash and Roselyn Keo, two strippers who "stole from (mostly) rich, (usually) disgusting, (in their minds) pathetic men and gave to, well, themselves."
The first trailer has just been released showing Lopez, who plays Ramona, show Wu, who plays Destiny, how to pole dance to help her make enough money to look after her daughter. Quickly, the women realise how they can make a lot more cash off their clients and things get out of hand - fast (watch the trailer below).
Writer and director Lorene Scafaria called the movie "an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture," per Variety.
"Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world."
Hustlers is scheduled for release in September.
