As seen on the runways and on the street, leather is now best served with a more-is-more attitude. We’re talking layer upon layer of buttery golden leathers — from a long line leather jacket on top of a cowboy-esque fringed shirt and finished with knee high boots… the more the better.
Take cues from Alberta Ferreti’s new Italian mood with wide-legged white leather pants topped off with bushranger-like hats. Or, go with A.W.A.K.E’s version of the new leather jacket — pleated, oversized… whatever the quirk, it’s long (goodbye motocycle!). No matter your leathery poison, it’s all about adding a little drama — no normcore here.
The street style set embraced coloured leather, opting for muted browns, purples and even rusty oranges to go with the decidedly throwback mood of the season. Paired with everything from neon to knits, the jackets were half statement and half neutral. Like animal print the season prior, leather has become something of an in-the-know basic. Tie it up and belt it and you’re all sorted.
Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber are dedicated fans of the look, swaying particularly towards the longline ‘90s-style leather blazer made famous by turn-of-the-century stars and iconic fashion muses: think, Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp. Paired with jeans, simple T-shirts and sneakers, it makes for a fresh update on the standard denim jacket or statement coat. Plus, with so many faux materials now on the market, can be ethically sound, too.
