Enter VS Sassoon’s new ‘smart’ Digital Sensor Straightener. Boasting an in-built intelligent digital sensor with ‘protect’ mode function that continually monitors and adjusts the temperature according to the characteristics of your hair, it promises shiny, luscious and long-lasting locks every time you use it.
Armed with a photo of Blake Lively as inspiration and a few tips from VS Sassoon’s Stylist, Rob Reeves, I discovered dream waves weren’t as challenging as you might think. Here’s how to use the VS Sassoon Digital Sensor Straightener to create soft, glamourous waves in no time at all.
Starting with freshly washed and completely dry hair, set the Digital Sensor Straightener to ‘protect’ mode and pass through hair just once so it can determine the correct temperature setting based on your hair’s moisture level (told you it was clever).
Prep your strands for styling with thermal protectant. Choose a weightless formula that won’t weigh down waves like Oribe Balm D'Or Heat Styling Shield.
When it comes to curling, the direction the hair is pulled will determine the overall effect. Curls which sweep away from your face are the most flattering. For your left-hand side, use your right hand to point the straightener down and away from your face. For your right side, use your left hand to complete the same motion.
Starting at the base of your head, take a section of hair approximately 5cm wide, clamp the straightener closed and turn it back on itself away from the face. Run the Digital Sensor Straightener slowly down the hair shaft to the end – applying some tension to create the curl. Repeat working your way through your hair.
For the hair closest to your face, start your curl at the same level as your nose for a flattering face-framing effect.
For foolproof waves, apply a flexible hold hairspray - try Tresemme Expert Selection Perfectly (Un)Done Divine Definition Spray - evenly throughout your lengths. The beauty of the VS Sassoon Digital Sensor Straightener is its ionic frizz control function that eliminates static and flyaways, negating the need for shine spray when you straighten or curl your hair.
Leave hair to cool to help set the curls and guarantee their staying power. Then, gently run fingers or a soft bristle brush through your hair to soften and style the curl. PRO TIP: Starting at the bottom and underneath will ensure you don’t pull on the hair and create a flat crown.
