On a related note, Seth said he would "love" for Gwyneth to explain the story behind one of Goop's latest products. In case you haven't been following the story, Goop is selling an infamous $75 candle, which Paltrow named "This Smells Like My Vagina." As you can imagine, it's been raising quite a few eyebrows.
"It's a candle," Gwyneth began, barely able to contain her laughter. "It's called 'This Smells Like My Vagina.'" She burst into laughter. "It sort of started with a joke. I was with the nose, Douglas Little for his brand Heretic, and we were kind of messing around. I smelled this beautiful thing and I said 'this smells like my vagina'!" Paltrow recalled in a singsong voice.
"I was kidding, obviously. And we were on mushrooms – no, we weren't, we weren't – but it became a thing that was really funny to us, but also a little bit punk rock. I think women, a lot of us, have grown up feeling certain degrees of shame around our bodies or whatever. So this is a little bit of a subversive candle for all of us out there."
So what does the candle really smell like? According to the official Goop listing, it's made with "geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed."
So, maybe it doesn't bring to mind notes of. Gwyneth's most private of areas. It was never meant to. But it's certainly made for a great story, and Gwyneth and Goop are laughing all the way to the bank.
