Long before she was engaged to fiancé Brad Falchuk, Gwyneth Paltrow dated actor Ben Affleck between 1997-2000. (That’s after her relationship with Brad Pitt and before meeting ex-husband Chris Martin.)
Earlier this week, the 45-year-old reflected on the high-profile romance during a new candid interview revealing the reason she never married Affleck.
“It’s interesting. I think there are certain boyfriends where you are trying to work stuff out, right? Like, you’re trying to heal certain stuff from your childhood and he was very much a lesson in that way,” Paltrow, 45, told Howard Stern on his U.S. radio program.
“I’m not sure exactly what I was trying to heal in that instance, but it was … he was, you know. It was specific.”
Previously, Gwyneth has confessed that Ben was "was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend," during their three year on-off relationship.
"I think that when you're in your twenties, you can get swept up in [good looks]," she noted of being with her hunky exes. "When you're a kid, you tend to be more shallow and you're also immature, so you think that being with a good looking person validates yourself in some kind of way. It's not true."
Paltrow confirmed her recent engagement to Falchuk–best known for his work on Glee and American Horror Story– with an emotional statement.
"We feel incredibly lucky to have come together at this juncture in our lives, when our collective successes and failures can serve as building blocks for a healthy and happy relationship."
