1. THERE WILL BE TEN NEW EPISODES
HBO Max (Warner Media’s newest streaming service) has ordered 10 hour-long episodes of the new version of the generation-defying series. With the landscape of social media very different to what it was back in 2012, we can expect the show to tackle some hard-hitting topics as original writer and producer Josh Safran promised that the show will “address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."
2. CHACE CRAWFORD DEFINITELY WANTS TO MAKE A CAMEO
We’d be lying if we said weren’t hopeful of a reunion of our fab four (and maybe you too, Dan and Vanessa). While the series will follow the lives of a new generation of preppy teenagers, fans are holding out hope for the original stars to reprise their iconic roles. Speaking to OK! Magazine, Nate Archibold Chace Crawford revealed he’d be open to a reunion “if it was done the right way”.
3. KRISTEN BELL COULD BE RETURNING
Although she never physically appeared on screen, Kristen Bell was undoubtedly one of the most iconic stars as the voice of Gossip Girl herself. Speaking with E! News, Bell kept fans guessing about the status of her involvement, responding with “Maybe. I’ll never tell.”
4. THE SERIES IS EXPECTED TO AIR IN 2020
No official release date has been announced as of yet but you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on the new episodes because HBO Max is expected to launch in Autumn 2020.
5. BOTH BLAKE LIVELY AND LEIGHTON MEESTER ARE OPEN TO A REVIVAL
Blake Lively admitted to Variety in 2017 that she would welcome a reboot with the original cast.
"It sort of all depends," actress said."Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it's hard work and I've got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much. But I've just learned in life you never say never. I'm looking to do something that I haven't done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows—if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City."
After the news dropped that a reboot was a possibility, Meester was asked by E! News in April 2019 if she would be open to doing Gossip Girl again to which she reponded: "No one's ever asked me. No one's ever talked to me about it except for in interviews, and I always say the same. I never say never. So, I don't know. No one's sent me that information, it's coming from you."
6. ED WESTWICK WOULD BE INTERESTED..IF HE WAS OFFERED ONE MILLION DOLLARS
Gossip Girl just wouldn’t be the same without the one and only Chuck Bass. In an interview with Radio Times in May 2017, Westwick was quick to say that his character is “played out” and how the idea of a reboot isn't plausible.
“Nah, that’s not gonna happen,” he told the interviewer. “I know there’s a bunch of them coming back – I hear they’re doing Will and Grace, they’ve done Gilmore Girls… But it’s such a strange thing to think about. It feels like we only just finished! And I haven’t done enough in between yet to feel like I could comfortably revisit it. And I did so much with that character – it’s played out, man. It’s done.” Nevertheless, Westwick said he would be keen to reprise the role of Chuck again only if he was offered millions of dollars. That’s still a possibility though, right?
Stay tuned for further updates, XOXO.
