It was revealed the couple, who married in Italy in 2014, were pregnant for the first time when friend and talk show host Julie Chen announced the news live on air in February.
Breaking Hollywood's best kept secret, Chen said: "Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins."
"Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney!"
The famous actor then confirmed the news himself while being filmed for an interview on French TV show, Rencontres de Cinema.
"We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure." he said, before saying, "We've sort of embraced it all... with arms wide open."
Clooney also revealed that when he broke the news to his friends over dinner, they couldn't contain their laughter: "It got really quiet," he said. "And they all just started making baby crying noises and the whole table just busted up laughing."
